Philips will launch their new series of flat screen televisions that emit ambient light. The name of the new televison is "Aurea". The ambient lighting corresponds with the brightness and color of the actual image coming from the televison. During any type of viewing or gaming the light is projected as a soft halo on the wall. Philips says that the Ambilight Spectra, "adds a magical dimenstion to your viewing experience". Within the tv there is 126 LED's placed around the screen. In independent academic research it has been proven that the ambilight has benefits. In 2005, the Lighting Research Centre of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York confirmed Ambilight reduced eyestrain (fatigue) and increased visual comfort, compared to a normal TV. In 2007, the Ludwig - Maximilians University, Munich, found Ambilight to be less taxing on the brain, which increases relaxation and enabling more emotional involvement.
