Machines that see in 3d

This looks like an interesting study done by the University of Maryland's engineering department. They were trying to write program and create process' by which machines can see in three dimensions as opposed to the usual two. This is then supposed to act in accordance with robotics which can operate in a more efficient manner. The big push for the research is to make everything more affordable so that mass commercialization becomes possible.
